Summer Picnic

I love summer picnics and my goal this summer was to take more advantage of them since we live in a condo and don’t have our own outdoor space. I was really excited to get some new picnic gear for my birthday, I posted about my inspiration here. I also pulled out the table coverlet I sewed from our Christmas dinner you can see here. I think it was  a perfect drop cloth for our picnic!

We brought our mini weber grill and grilled steaks and vegtables in tin foil. It was a lovley evening!

Fancy Brunch

Sometimes on a Saturday morning I randomly decide to set a really pretty table (or in this case island counter). I think it is so fun to start the day with a beautiful tablescape over eggs. This is from a couple weeks ago, but the pictures were so fun I had to share. I used my grandma’s china. Underneath is just a peice of black and white fabric. It isn’t even sew together. I used them for an outdoor picnic a long time ago and I found that I liked them so much I randomly use them all the time. It would probably be good if I actually sewed them properly, but they seem to work just fine.

On my mind…..wallpaper over nighstands

I love the look of art over the night stands. I think it gives so much depth. This has been on my mind to do for quiet some time but I haven’t had chance to do it yet. But I think I am going to give it a go soon.

I think I am going to do this wallpaper below. I have print mixed pillows so I wanted something subtle but still with some print because I can’t resist print.

What do you think? I like the updated pattern but it is still a bit traditional. My wall is also brick so I think it will look really nice against it!

DIY: Painted Frame

Sorry I have been MIA I started a new job at work and I have yet to get in a swing of things.

So latley my mind has been on a couple projects around the condo. First a gallery wall which is almost done, and I can’t wait to show it to you! Here is a sneak peak at re-finishing a frame. A long time ago I bought a couple of over sized frames at Michael’s. I only needed 2 but there were 3 there and since they were so cheap ($10 each) I bought all of them and figured I would use them. I didn’t like the brown color so each of them I painted gold. Sunday I pulled this one out of the closet and first sanded it down.

I used Martha Steward metallic Paint. I have to say I love this stuff. It is the third project I have used it for. So nice! Gives such a great finish.

This print has a special place in my heart because we got it on our honeymoon at this cute little winery in Healdsburg.

Once we get all the art hung I will show the finished project! It is looking so great!

Decorating with Wood Trim

Dark trim has been on my mind lately…..In Milwaukee all the downtown houses are OLD. I mean really old. My problem with old houses is accepting the dark wood trim which is all over Milwaukee. I know that if we ever bought one of these old houses I probably couldn’t bring myself to paint the 100+ year old wood trim, but it is really hard to find inspiration to keep it dark. With so many people these days only decorating with white trim. Here are a couple ideas I found….do you know of any other resources to look at?1

I think the key is to keep everything else around it really bright and cheery. Otherwise the whole place ends up looking really dark.

What are your thoughts? Do you prefer white trim?
